Our family has four horses. Three of them are Arabians, one is a Minature. They live out 24/7, with shelter. Right now only one of them is getting grain, but they all get a free choice mineral, extra kelp, ground organic flax during the winter, and extra diatomaceous earth a few times a week. During the winter, or when needed, they also get plain beet pulp, oats, alfalfa hay or cubes, and grass hay.
Our family loves to trail ride, although lately my teens have been more interested in their friends than their horses! I take Amira or Lyrik out as often as possible though, and they both love trail riding. Amira used to be a hellion to get on a trailer, but has discovered she gets to have fun after riding in a trailer, plus extra brushing and grooming, so gives me no problem any more at all, thankfully.
Smokey is my future therapy horse. I hope to use him to take to old folks homes, schools for disabled children, etc. He is super-sweet and good natured and loves new people and things. Smokey will also be my grand-children's first pony though hopefully that will be a while in the future. We also plan to train him to cart soon.
